Wave!

Sometimes, we are the noun in our sentence, surrounded by the action, described from before or after, but always from the outside. We rest, content to let others speak for us, do for us, think for us, define us. Sometimes we are the verb, setting the terms, unconcerned with labels while descriptors pursue us, unnecessarily clinging to our coattails.

June Faust, one of my main characters, struggles with when to watch and when to lead because she’s lived long enough to know that when we are waving our arms and surfing the surge, we are not a wave, and when we collapse to a singularity, we are a wave, but no longer forcing open a world of possibilities.

Good grammar would dictate nouns and verbs are required for a sentence. A good life would have us live in equal measures of both. Fear of heartbreak manifests in both parts of speech; a theme I explore through my characters in The Admiral Inn Series.

Sometimes we get stuck in ‘park’ and other times, we can’t stop running. In this series, the folks of Moorewicks Bay are buffeted from the outside by forces beyond their control, but also twisted up from the inside by history and secrets. Life isn’t about whether you make a good noun or a better verb, but rather, do you know when to switch up your sentence? – AJAlanson.com
